The Mexican Regional Tournament is coming to San Miguel February 27-March 3, 2024. This  year, departing from last year, the venue for the tournament is Hotel Real de Minas, much more centrally located than the 2023 Regional venue. Any taxi driver will know how to go there (even if you know no Spanish, “Real de Minas” will get you an acknowledgement) and/or Google Maps will show you. To get there is so easy that we’ll tell you in barely a paragraph:

From the Garden and the Church that occupy the center of town, walk to the west descending via Umaran to Calle Hernandez Macias. Go left, against the traffic (it is one way for cars). Go past the kink in Hernandez Macias and you will join the Ancha San Antonio, a broad street going South. One block later, you will pass Hotel Aldea on your right, and continuing walking will take you past the Mercado Sano, and a block later you’ll see the Real de Minas at the head of Calle Sterling Dickinson.

Registration is open on Monday, February 26 from 5 to 7 PM. In this day and age of internet information you may have your restaurant selected but there are 500-odd restaurants in San Miguel and you can dig out a recommendation at registration if your mind isn’t made up. (For a charming minimalist selection, you might try Cha Cha Cha, a family Mexican restaurant your cab can locate in the San Antonio neighborhood near Rosales and 28 April Norte. It is fully bilingual.)

There are open pairs games every day, Tuesday through Saturday (10 AM and 3 PM), two day knockouts (same times), a continuing single session side game (3 PM) that awards master points for each session and master points to the pairs that cumulatively earn points over the four days on which the event is run and a Sunday Swiss teams event kicking off at 10 AM, second session time to be determined following the completion of the first session.
